  • Ace: Achieved when all heroes in the enemy team are dead. Aces fully heal the team who gets the ace and give minions the Ace buff, making them stronger and more durable. However, the heal from the Ace can be cancelled by taking significant damage. (for example, turret shots)
  • AOE: Area of Effect. Usually refers to abilities like Skaarf's B, or the destruction of a turret.
  • Armor: Decreases weapon damage/basic attacks.
  • Armor Pierce: Lets a percentage of your damage from Weapon Power be unaffected by Armor. Given by items like Piercing Spear and Tension Bow.
  • Armor Shred: Lets your attacks temporarily cancel out the effects of opponents' armor. Different from Armor Pierce in that allies can take advantage of the shredded armor as well. Given by Bonesaw.
  • Backs: refers to the Back minions, but most commonly the two large ones behind the minion mine.
  • Backdoor: Usually refers to when all enemy turrets are down, and an attack on the open vain should be attempted.
  • Body Blocking: Usually done by supports, the act of blocking skill shots and other devestating things with your hero, to save your teammates.
  • BP: Breaking Point.
  • Brush: The tall grass that renders you invisible to anyone outside the brush. Unless a flare is launched or a mine is dropped inside.
  • Build: Refers to how you upgrade your abilities and what items you buy.
  • Buff: A temporary stat boost. Outside of matches, this can refer to a balance change made between updates that strengthens a hero. (e.g: "Buff Taka or rito")
  • Carry: A character that usually wins you games. A Primary damage dealer. Also refers to the act of doing the most in a match.
  • CC: Crowd Control. Abilities that interfere, ie: slows, stuns, pulls. For example, Glaive's Afterburn.
  • CD: Cooldown
  • CP: Increases damage of your Abilities. blue items do this, except for Clockwork, which affects your CD.
  • CS: Creep Score. Total Minion kills.
  • Crit: Basic attack that deals 150% more damage. Tyrants Monocle, for example increases the the chance of it, for example.
  • CW: Clockwork
  • Debuff: A Temporary Negative Effect
  • Disc/DC: A player that has disconnected from the game.
  • DOT: Damage Over Time. Like the Mortal Wound inflicted after an X-Retsu.
  • DPS: Damage Per Second. ie, SAW has more DPS than Petal.
  • Facecheck: To check a bush for enemies without vision.
  • Fame: A guild currency earnable through playing matches with at least 1 other member.
  • Farm: Invloves gold, the act of killing minions, objectives, or refers to the minions themselves.
  • Feed: The act of a teammate/enemy dying consistently to be a detriment to his/her team.
  • First Hit: Being the first to hit an enemy. Doing this on an npc will draw aggro towards you.
  • Focus: To target a particular enemy. Usually to specify a player that will be killed first.
  • FoR/Fountain: Fountain of Renewal
  • Fortified Health: A more durable form of health that absorbs 50% of the damage taken from enemies, effectively reducing the damage a hero takes.
  • Ganking: The act of surprising your enemies to kill them.
  • Glory: Earnable currency to buy Card Boxes or Heroes.
  • Healer: The minions that offer HP regen once killed.
  • Hyper Leveling: The act of drawing aggro onto the Jungler after the support hits it. Once that occurs, the support leaves XP range but stays in IGC range, so that the Jungler gets more XP
  • ICE: The Premium currency in vainglory. Purchaseable with money.
  • Jungle: The area below the lane.
  • Jungler: The main damage dealer that farms in the jungle, usually along with the support.
  • Kite: Moving in one direction and shooting in the opposite. Should be done when running.
  • Lane: The area above the jungle/the area with turrets. Connects the two bases.
  • Last Hit: The act of dealing the killing blow to a minion to gain gold.
  • Lifesteal: Your basic attacks will heal you as you deal damage.
  • Lvl/Level: Refers to your characters level. you will know you increased one when "+" marks appear above your abilities.
  • Lock: Refers to locking in a hero. This means you cannot change your hero afterwards.
  • Melee Carry: A primary damage dealer that deals damage in melee range. normally the Jungler.
  • Nerf: A balance change made between updates that results in a hero or item getting weaker. (e.g: "Vox has never ever been nerfed before.")
  • Overdrive: The last upgrade to the first two abilities that usually increases its effectiveness.
  • Passive: Effects that aren't directly activated. ie. Warhorns Passive Damage Boost against minions.
  • Proc: The act of activating an effect on hit, like Tension Bow
  • Push: The act of applying pressure to the lane.
  • Ranged Carry: A primary damage dealer that attacks from range.
  • Root: A debuff that prevents Movement
  • Shield: Decreases damage of abilities/cp damage
  • Silence: A debuff that prevents the use of abilities or items.
  • Slow: A debuff that lowers the movement speed of an enemy.
  • Stun: A debuff that prevents movement, use of abilities, and items.
  • Stutter Step: The act of moving, then shooting, to increase attack speed while moving in a direction.
  • Snowball: The act of consistently dominating, thus lowering the ability for the enemy to gain the lead.
  • Support: A Hero who supports other characters through disabling enemies, healing or buffing allies. They start with the Ironguard Contract and let allies take the last hits. Supports are usually responsible for leading the team and calling the shots.
  • Tanking: A character that will usually take the most damage, and is meant to do so.
  • Tri-Bush The bushes by the clearing in the Jungle. Beside the Kraken pit.
  • True Damage: Damage that ignores armor and shield.
  • Ult: Short form for Ultimate. the ability you can unlock as soon as you hit level 6
  • Wision: Utilising Mines and Flares to win. The ideal of winning using vision.
  • WP: Short-term for Weapon Power. The Red items in the shop increase your WP. WP strengthens the power of your basic attacks, and certain skills, like Skye's Forward Barrage.
